We've had to go through this with some other dogs over the years, but it's a lot worse this time. Kato and Pepper were/are like two parts of one dog. I don't know how Pepper will get along without him. They did everything together. My wife retires from the local school district in a few days so it will help that Pepper will have company and not have to be alone for long.

Sometimes it seems almost silly to let dogs affect us as much as they do. I'm having a bad time dealing with losing this one. Me!! Big bad martial artist!! Always getting banged up/hurt in one way or another. A few weeks ago in a weapons class I managed to slice off half of a fingernail with a sword. No big deal... "It's mind over matter. I don't mind 'cause it don't matter!" This is worse than physical pain, but I'll get over it. Just gonna take a little time.

As for getting another dog, I'll have to think about that. I'm old enough now that it's just possible that a new dog could outlive me and I don't think I'd want that either.
