I was around 7-8 YOA, when my Dad took me to the local airport, and we went up in an old, rickety bi-plane, might have been a relic of WW 1. Great fun, i was really impressed.
Next ride was after WW II, in a yellow Piper Cub, up near Kalamazoo, Michigan. I even got the chance to control it for a while. Had my left foot removed from a war injury, so i couldn't work the pedals right.
Went to Sangree, SC to see the old Ford Tri-motor there. They were giving rides. Wife went up, but i kept my foot on the ground!
Much later, a friend invited me to a Fly-in Breakfast at a local airport. After breakfast, he wanted me to go up with him in his plastic, tail first airplane, but i said no to that. He chided me about it, and wondered why i wasn't afraid to ride my motorcycle all over, but wouldn't fly!
Only one answer: Ya don't have far to fall if the engine quits!
