Oklahoma woman answers Nebraska woman's online calls for help after chimney collapses

By Associated Press

AUBURN, Neb. (AP) — An Auburn woman trapped under a collapsed chimney reaches out for help — not through her phone, but her computer.

Lucille Kimball says her chimney collapsed Saturday night, falling on one of her legs, trapping her in her southeast Nebraska home.

In excruciating pain, she couldn't reach her phone, but she could reach her computer.

The 70-year-old Kimball plays the card game canasta on Pogo.com, so she logged on, entered a chat room and repeatedly typed in "Help me."

After two hours, a Tulsa, Okla., woman entered the chat room, saw Kimball's pleas and called police.

Rescuers who went to Kimball's home early Sunday morning say she was trapped under as much as a half-ton of rubble. No bones were broken, but Kimball did suffer a deep cut on her leg.
