Outside chimneys generate a lot of creosote.Fireplaces have a large air flow so dont make a lot of creosote.Put a slow burning wood stove into a fireplace will make creosote.A concrete block chimney inside thats covered up will run dirty. My son and I replaced an old chimney that was inside and covered up.I had to do a lot of mid winter chimney cleaning. The exposed chimney runs much cleaner.Cold chimneys can even freeze up on an outside wall.Keep your chimneys inside the building and dont try to hide them.Took me a long time to learn this.
