Might be a hairline crack at the post or battery or bad gasket or poor seal. When you run electrics, when the battery charges it "gasses" around the edge of the post and corrodes every thing around it. It is not suppose to gas there but it happens. It happens more often on the positive side.

G&B batteries use to be famous for this. You probably will not stop the acid gas leak on this battery.

You need to concentrate on neutralizing the acid on a regular basis or it will cause problems for the car and the next battery. Also make sure that it is a good connection - make sure it is tight.
