Thanks. California is pretty big, the fires are 30 or 40 miles from me. My childhood home burned down in one of California's worst fires, though, about 20 years ago. The lot is empty to this day, grown over with trees and weeds. The mother and wife of one of my elementary school classmates died alongside a policeman who was trying to save them, and both parents of another classmate died in that fire. I don't remember if it was 12 or 16 people altogether that got trapped in a canyon, the fire was coming from all sides. They could have gotten out had they gone downhill but they had no way of knowing which way to go. It all happened too fast. My sister's best friend and her sister escaped in their pj's, and saw a big burning tree fall behind them, blocking the road out.
