I don't think it's a lack of mental capacity, I think it's having been brought up in a planned obsolescence, cheaper to buy new than to fix, throw it away world.

That, and instant gratification. Nobody wants to take the TIME to fix something when they can pop down to MegaLoMart and buy a new one.

It's all gonna come back and bite us on the butt one daiy...
