Last year my five year old semi-dwarf apple tree (a golden delicious) had lots of wonderful apples. This spring it was slow to bud, then never bloomed, looked dead, so after everything else was far along, I gave up on it and went to dig it up. There were NO ROOTS! None whatsoever---the tree fell over into my hands. What happened in one winter? I'm ready to replant, so want to know what went wrong. Any ideas? Thanks.
