I have heard that the most effective way to stop a rooster from crowing is to apply a liberal amount of vaseline or grease to the bird's posterior which will inhibit the muscles to form a seal. As you know, all birds must clench their sphincter muscles in order to create sound - therefore the application of grease will make this impossible for the rooster. Check it out. Good luck.
