If your wife is a nurse, she can just about take her pick of jobs as there is a great shortage of nurses just about everywhere. St. Johnsbury is about 50 miles northwest of me. It's in the southern part of what is known as the "Northeast Kingdom" of VT. Not a very prosperous area economically but very beautiful, as is Coos county, the northernmost one in NH. Real estate would be cheaper there than in the area where I live which is a lot more touristy and therefore yuppified with many second homes, ski areas, lakes & more mountainous. Littleton, NH is a real nice town. It's on the Connecticut River about 20 miles this side of St. J. It has a brand new hospital.
Good luck with your quest. People have been moving here to NH for as long as I can remember and before. Way more than half the people in NH were born somewhere else.
I doubt if you'll have any trouble making friends. We're pretty used to people "from away".
Heck, my wife is one of them "flatlanders".
