About ten years ago, a farmer here in this very county, grew tired of ATV's and dirt bikes tearing up his property, so he strung a cable with a lock across the trails they used wherever the trails entered his property. 15 yr old dirt biker, flying along lost his head. Farmer claimed he had put up no trespassing signs hanging from the cable, but the jury didn't believe him. He's doing time for manslaughter, and his family lost the farm when sued by the parents of the boy. Regardless of what you may think of the current legal system, tacks and other traps, will get you into trouble. Look at how many states require signs or flags on electric fences, so snowmobilers don't lose their heads. In most states you have no duty to warn a trespasser of any natural hazards, but you can't set traps for them, and you might have to warn them of any man made hazards.
