Are you aware of the fact the 12 volts to the fuel pump is not constant with the key on, but is only for like 2-3 seconds when you switch the key to "on", and then shuts off untill the computer gets a signal form the distributor or crank position sensor that the engine is actually turning over? A bad ECM or crank postion sensor will cause this.
