I started a small farm a few years ago. I raise chickens, pigs, rabbits & goats. I read in the book 'Five Acres & Independence' that one should have a dog as it earns its keep for little money.

I had many problems with wild animals wanting to eat our small animals. Foxes, owls, skunks, racoons, badgers, eagles, hawks, stray dogs and other critters visited my property about every night like a sailor on 3-day leave in a tavern! Nothing but problems.

Since getting a dog, absolutely nothing visits now. Not even snakes or mice. A dog is worth a lot just like that book said.
