'Crosslots' is just that...usually a trodden path that literally goes 'across lots' as opposed to a town byway, lane or road...
Just for giggles I had put it into a google search and looked on www.dictionary.com...Not in the dictionary and the very few references I could find on google all had to do with Vermont and New Hampshire...I was surprised that something so familiar to me would not be common to others...
My Mom and my Sister have a 'crosslots' path that has been used constantly for 40+ years...I was always hunting my way home from school in the fall 'crosslots'...I had friends 'over on the other road' where a trudge 'crosslots' was one mile, but to do it by roads was nearer to 5...
